Chapter 16

Resor storms out of the house and I can’t make myself move from the counter. I’m embarrassed even though I know it wasn’t his intention to make me feel this way. I’m fully capable of understanding that nothing that happened to me was my fault, but it doesn’t change how dirty it makes me feel to see the evidence of my abuse.

For this short moment in time, being held in Resor’s arms while he kissed the breath from my body, I was able to forget my past and live in the present. His gaze is so intense when he looks at me, it’s like he could devour me and I wouldn’t do a thing to stop him.

Now that he’s gone, I’m left feeling empty and alone. It’s probably best that we took a break before things really escalated between us. I wouldn’t have been able to stop him because what he was doing to me felt so damn good.

It’s been a long time since anything felt good.

Being at the Outpost was filled with feelings of embarrassment when I was looked at like an object to play with. It was filled with pain when I was punished. Being locked in the cage gave me the experience of a different type of pain and exhaustion I never knew existed. And there were also times when I would receive a beating from my disobedience. That was mostly in the beginning when I was still determined to escape and get back home. Thoza never did his own dirty work, of course. He left that job to his prized guards who would never question a command from their master.

When I catch Resor watching me, though, it’s a different experience entirely. He looks at me and sees the woman I was before. The passion in his eyes makes me feel desirable as a woman, not a pet to be mastered. For the first time since my abduction, he makes me feel safe and protected.

My body betrays me whenever he’s near me. I’ve told myself to focus on healing and getting through the trauma, but I’m starting to think he could really help me with that. If his kisses can feel as amazing as they do, I can’t fathom what he’s capable of doing with the rest of that gorgeous body.

Making my way toward the window, I check outside to see if he’s circling out there. He never goes far even when I can’t see him. Soon his two week suspension will be over and he’ll go back to the command station during the day. From the serious look on his face when he was talking to Thrutik, something bad is happening…I’m just not sure what. I want to ask if it has anything to do with Thoza, but I don’t know if it’s my place to ask about their business. Still, I need reassurance that he’s out of my life for good. And now that Resor is the one man I can depend on, I don’t want him to put himself in danger when he goes back to his job.
